What is "Compile Disc Station"?

"Compile Disc Station" was a series of magazines that were released in floppy disks for PC-98 and CD-Roms for Windows 95, which contained demonstrations, full versions and other interesting bonuses that were included in the disc. It was popular in Japan and later in South Korea. Most notable games that were included were among others:

  • Gensei Suikoden, which is a RPG set in Gensei world (released in Compile Disc Station Vol. 14; Vol. 2 in South Korea)
  • Nazo Puyo - the puzzle version of Puyo Puyo, each variation is with separate puzzle
  • Gensei Kaishingeki - Zelda-like dungeon crawler with Smash the Shinobi Dog as the playable character in search for a legendary book as he encounters multiple enemies and bosses on his way (Released in Compile Disc Station Vol. 12)
  • Although floppy disk oriented PC-98 did contain games and previews, the CD-based Compile Disc Station for Windows 95 contained videos as well, which included advertisements, promos for upcoming games and also - animated shorts. Each of the volume contained between 1 and 3 of the animations that involved characters from a different game series made by Compile themselves, including Gensei, Jump Hero and most importantly Madou Monogatari/Puyo Puyo. Later on, the animations were compiled into one compilation released in 1998.

Polish equivalent for that would be Cybermycha - Polish gaming magazine for children, which also contained demonstations and full versions of games and also some bonuses like wallpapers, programs and so on.
